One of the most popular hikes in the region. Starting at the Oberstaufen train station, the trail leads through Bad Rain up to the viewpoint overlooking the Hochgrat, then continues through Buchenegg to the waterfalls. Below the falls are so-called “Gumpen”—deep pools where your dog can cool off on hot summer days. But be careful! The trail has been renovated and partially replaced with metal steps.

A family-friendly hike to the Imberg mountain station at 1,325 m. On the high plateau, there’s little elevation gain, and plenty of mountain huts with dog bowls right outside the door. In winter, the trails are groomed—perfect if you don’t want to get stuck in deep snow.

The name says it all: Hündle is a dog’s paradise. Robidog stations stocked with dog waste bags are located at both the upper and lower stations of the Hündlebahn. In the spring, crocuses bloom here, and in the summer, green alpine meadows offer views of the Allgäu peaks.

🐾 Kapf Loop Trail (short dog-walking route, approx. 1.5 km)

For relaxing days or dogs that prefer a more leisurely pace: a short loop trail starting at the Kurhaus Oberstaufen with beautiful views of the valley. Ideal for a morning or evening walk right from your apartment.

🐾 Tronsberg Trail (half-day hike, approx. 8 km)

From the Oberstaufen train station through Kalzhofen to the Tronsberg district, through a small ravine, and back via Wengen. A moderately difficult hike with views of the Hochgrat—wonderful for fit four-legged friends.

All three mountain railways in Oberstaufen allow dogs on board—no muzzle required:

• Hündlebahn: Free ride with your dog

• Imbergbahn: Free ride with your dog

• Hochgratbahn: €4 per dog (as of 2026)

With the Oberstaufen PLUS Card, which is included in your package, you can ride all three mountain railways for free—you only pay the dog fare separately on the Hochgrat.

To ensure that you and your dog can enjoy a relaxing vacation with us, here are the most important local rules:

• Dogs must be kept on a leash in Oberstaufen, Thalkirchdorf, Steibis, and Aach, as well as throughout the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park. This also applies in parks and on playgrounds.

• Dog waste disposal: There are around 100 Robidog stations with bags and trash cans in Oberstaufen and the surrounding area.

• Stay on the trails—avoid open pastures. Dog waste is even dangerous for grazing animals on alpine meadows.

• In winter: Dogs are not allowed on ski slopes or cross-country trails.

• Oberstaufen’s dangerous dog ordinance: Dogs must be kept on a leash with a maximum length of 1.5 meters.
